ABOUT HOW YOU CAN GET INVOLVED

Ways We Help: Salvation Army National Outreach

Many Americans are familiar with The Salvation Army's thrift stores which fund our well-known drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs. And our iconic red kettles have become a symbol of the Christmas season and the spirit of giving.

But in hundreds of communities across the Western United States, The Salvation Army also operates programs and services which are designed to meet human need in Christ's name, alleviate human suffering, and promote wholeness by addressing the spiritual, social, emotional, psychological and physical well-being of those served.

The Salvation Army's social service programs vary slightly with local and regional needs. For instance, there are programs and services for homeless people, victims of domestic violence, at-risk kids, and so much more.

  • The Way In Drop-in Youth Shelter

The Way In was founded to help children escape Hollywood street life and provide a home-like environment in which abused and/or neglected teenagers could live safely as they mature into productive and independent young adults.

Our onsite and offsite transitional housing properties are open to adults between 18 and 21 years old who are trying to get off the streets and back on their feet. The 18-month program includes education about finance and saving, finding and keeping employment and partnerships with other agencies to fill whatever gaps there are to keep them off the streets. It has become home to many of the 8,000 homeless youth who sleep on the streets of Los Angeles each night.

If you need to stay at The Way In, visit us at 5939 Hollywood Blvd, Los Angeles, California 90028.

To learn more, call 323.337.1640 or go to thewayin.salvationarmy.org.
